Bethaney accepts briefs to advise and appear in all areas of law, with a particular focus on complex criminal law matters, ancillary criminal proceedings, and regulatory matters.
Prior to coming to the bar, Bethaney was an acting Principal Federal Prosecutor and Senior Federal Prosecutor with the Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP), where most recently she was responsible for the prosecution of alleged war crimes committed by members of the Australian Defence Force in Afghanistan from 2005 to 2016.
During her time at the CDPP, she also prosecuted other serious national security, drug, terrorism, cybercrime, and human exploitation offences.
Bethaney has also worked in private criminal defence and was Tipstaff to the Honourable Justice Rothman in the Supreme Court of NSW.
