Dev practises in criminal law in both trials and appeals. He is often instructed in serious cases, involving homicides, large-scale drug importation, terrorism, serious violence, sexual offences, significant fraud, corporate crime and regulatory and environmental matters.

Dev’s speciality is as a trial barrister. He particularly enjoys the tactics involved in the trial process, including pre-trial negotiations, and is known for his ability to synthesise and present cases. His advice is often sought in matters involving complex evidentiary issues, large documentary cases or cases requiring intricate directions of law.

He has also appeared in significant appellate matters, including cases that consider the mental element of terrorism offences, and the powers of the District Court in hearing appeals.

Dev has also developed a specialist practice in consequential orders arising from criminal convictions, including parole, high-risk offender orders, asset confiscation, coercive hearings, disciplinary proceedings, migration, working with children’s checks and firearm licences.

He appears as sole counsel or led by Senior Counsel.

Dev is listed in the Doyle’s Guide 2025 as a Recommended Criminal Law Junior Counsel in New South Wales.

Since 2021, Dev has been a member of the NSW Bar Association’s Criminal Law Committee and takes an active role in mentoring through the Law Society’s and the Diverse Women in Law’s mentoring programs.
