Phil Swaine was called to the Bar in 2016. He specialises in criminal law and has extensive experience conducting jury trials and other proceedings primarily in the District Court.
Phil is a member of both the ‘complex barrister’ and ‘indictable barrister’ Legal Aid criminal law briefing panels and is on the Counsel List of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
Phil is entitled to practise in all Australian jurisdictions, Commonwealth, State and Territory. He is a barrister of the High Court of Australia and a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
Phil is a member of the New South Wales Bar Association, the Bar Association of Queensland, the New Zealand Bar Association, and the Australian Bar Association.
Prior to being called to the Bar, Phil worked in financial markets in Sydney and Tokyo.
Phil holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Juris Doctor from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Wine Business from the University of Adelaide. He holds a post-graduate diploma in Applied Finance and Investment, and a diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
